Having a child with your partner is a rewarding, exciting experience. However, to successfully conceive, both partners must be fertile. For single women and same-sex couples who want to have a baby and do not have a specific donor in mind, it makes having a baby possible. If you decide on donor sperm, we’ll connect you with a reputable sperm bank.
Conception can be accomplished through surrogacy, in which an alternate individual carries the embryo for the intended parents. There are two types of surrogacy: traditional surrogacy and gestational surrogacy (with a gestational carrier).
In the case of traditional surrogacy, the surrogate’s egg is utilized for conception, and is either artificially inseminated by the intended father’s sperm or retrieved during an egg retrieval and then transferred back to the surrogate via embryo transfer .
Given the use of the surrogate’s egg during conception, there will be a genetic link between the child and the surrogate mother.
In the case of a gestational surrogacy, the gestational carrier will be implanted by an embryo achieved via in-vitro fertilization. This embryo results from the union of the intended parents’ egg and sperm.
Prior to pursuing surrogacy or acquiring a gestational carrier, all parties will need to receive comprehensive psychological and legal counselling along with extensive diagnostic testing.
