Intrauterine Insemination
(IUI)
Sometimes the egg and the sperm need a little help coming together. With IUI you can increase your chances of the egg and sperm meeting, and ultimately creating LIFE.
Intrauterine Insemination
Is a fertility treatment that uses a catheter to place a large number of washed sperm directly into the uterus. The goal of IUI is to increase the number of sperm that reach the fallopian tubes and subsequently increase the chance of fertilization. IUI provides the sperm an advantage by giving them a head start, but they still have to seek out the egg on their own.
Intrauterine Insemination is a simple, minimally invasive technique that can be combined with medications to create the optimal timing and conditions for a natural pregnancy to occur.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)?
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment in which specially prepared sperm is placed directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation to increase the likelihood of sperm reaching and fertilising an egg.
2. Who might benefit from IUI?
IUI can be recommended for individuals or couples with mild male infertility, unexplained infertility, ovulation issues, cervical factor infertility, or those using donor sperm. It’s often considered before more invasive treatments.
3. What happens during an IUI cycle?
An IUI cycle typically involves evaluating ovulation timing, possibly using fertility medications, preparing a semen sample (washing), and then inserting the healthy sperm directly into the uterus with a thin catheter near ovulation.
4. Is the IUI procedure painful and what should I expect afterward?
Most people experience minimal discomfort during IUI, similar to a Pap smear. Some may feel mild cramping or spotting afterward, and most can resume normal activities soon after the procedure.
5. How soon can I test for pregnancy after IUI?
A pregnancy test is usually performed about two weeks after the IUI procedure, which allows enough time for implantation and measurable hormone changes.
