LGBTQ+ Family Building
LGBTQ+ Family Building encompasses the diverse methods and pathways available for LGBTQ+ individuals and couples to create and grow their families. These options include surrogacy, donor insemination, and in-vitro fertilization (IVF), among others.
As legal and social landscapes continue to evolve, there are increasing resources and support systems available to help LGBTQ+ individuals navigate these family-building options. This ensures that everyone can pursue their dreams of parenthood in ways that are inclusive, affirming, and tailored to their unique needs.

Single Parenting
At Thrive IVF, we are here to help women and men without a partner achieve their dreams of having a baby.
Single Parenting for Women
This process involves either IUI or IVF using donor sperm. Women can use any of the FDA approved sperm banks to purchase donor sperm. These samples are shipped to our laboratory where they are stored.
Single Parenting for Men
Single men can also achieve their dreams of being a parent through a gestational carrier, egg donor and use of their own sperm. Your sperm will be paired with a donor egg to create an embryo using IVF. The embryo will be implanted into a gestational surrogate’s uterus in hopes of leading to a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What family-building options are available for LGBTQ+ individuals and couples?
LGBTQ+ individuals and couples have many options to grow their families, including donor insemination (IUI) or IVF with donor sperm or eggs, surrogacy with a gestational carrier, reciprocal IVF for female couples (where one partner provides the egg and the other carries the pregnancy), adoption, and fostering, depending on personal goals and medical needs.
2. How does donor sperm or egg use work in LGBTQ+ family building?
When biological gametes from a partner aren’t available or chosen, sperm or egg donors can be used. Donor sperm is typically obtained from reputable sperm banks and may be used in IUI or IVF. Egg donation may also be used for male couples or single people wanting a biological connection.
3. What is reciprocal IVF and who is it for?
Reciprocal IVF is a family-building option for same-sex female couples where one partner provides the eggs to be fertilised with donor sperm, and the other partner carries the pregnancy, allowing both to be biologically involved.
4. Do same-sex male couples need a surrogate to have a baby?
Yes, for male couples wishing to have a genetically related child, a gestational carrier (surrogate) is typically involved. An egg donor provides eggs, which are fertilised with sperm from one or both partners, and a surrogate carries the pregnancy.
5. Should transgender or non-binary individuals consider fertility preservation?
For transgender and non-binary individuals, fertility preservation such as egg or sperm freezing before hormone therapy or surgery can help maintain future family-building options. Talking with a fertility specialist early helps tailor a plan that supports your goals.
